The Plan

Jump down if you want the tl;dr

We know strategic voting sucks, but for the provincial elections of 2022 and 2025, we pushed for it because that was the only tool we, as voters, could work with. We know we made a difference--your donations and volunteering for candidates helped flip two seats in Toronto, and left Ford with fewer seats than he'd won in 2022--but if we're stuck with four more years of Doug Ford, we need to use this time to do better.

We need to bring the fight inside the parties

Despite their differences, we saw a lot of common ground between the Opposition parties on the important issues of healthcare, the environment and housing—and certainly, they all have the advantage of not being lead by Doug Ford.

But we also know, the Ontario Liberals and Ontario NDP don't want to work together.

For two elections, we've called on them to do it, the Green Party has called on them to do it, pretty much all of Ontario has plainly seen that we'd be stuck with more Ford if they didn't work together and in fact, Ford's campaign strategy has largely focused on keeping them fighting for second place. And yet, they still won't.

But we know there are people within both parties that understand the need for the work together to deal with Ford. And we also know, they keep getting shut down by party HQ.

That's were we need you to come in

We â€‹need people from all across Ontario to join the local riding associations of the NDP and Liberal parties--whichever you feel more comfortable with--and start talking about a need to cooperate to defeat Doug Ford. We need those people to get loud in local meetings, to connect us with the riding associations presidents (personal connections always work best), and to be that fearless voice for doing the right thing that will embolden others to speak up as well.

Right now, we especially need people to join the Liberal Party. Given Bonnie Crombie's upcoming leadership review in Fall 2025, and the growing discontent with her leadership, we think this presents a good opportunity for change, either with a new leader who is open to the idea, or by using the fear of getting ousted to push Crombie to take on a cooperative approach, plus we can push to add electoral reform to the party policy resolutions.

Will this really work?

This is a long game strategy, and it will not be easy. Political parties in Canada have increasingly been ignoring the grassroots of their parties. This will take sustained effort. But whether for the purposes of electoral cooperation, electoral reform, or simply improving our democracy overall, we think it's worth doing.

Not One Seat's ultimate goal is to get Ontario out from under the thumb of Doug Ford, and we will always choose the most pragmatic strategy towards doing that. A lot can change between now and the next provincial election. As the situation changes, we will shift our strategy accordingly. But in the meantime, this where we can make the most meaningful difference now.

tl;dr: Join as many Liberal and NDP local riding associations as possible, get loud about a cooperative approach and work together to pushback against party HQ. Focus on the Liberals right now, as there upcoming opportunities for change.
